WHY I ❤️ BERNARDS TOWNSHIP...Reason #6 & 7
I ❤️ Love Bernards…Reason #6…Ross Farm where we can experience Bernards’ atmosphere of a strong sense of community, culture, and history.
“We look forward to creating relationships with groups and individuals to bring this estate to life in the present.” - The Friends of Boudinot-Southard-Ross Estate
Thank you to Ross Farm and its Friends for creating this special place for our community. This past Saturday I attended Stephen Kellogg’s concert, and spent time with my neighbors and friends, while enjoying the welcoming beauty of this unique place where our community meets to appreciate the past and enjoy the present.
Ross Farm like all of Bernards Township is steeped in Revolutionary War history. The farm was first the home of one of our least known Founding Fathers, Elias Boudinot. He provided much needed gun powder to Washington’s troops, and he was a President of the Continental Congress. In 1785 Henry Southard came to be the second owner of the estate. Southard Park down the road from Ross Farm bears his name as does the destroyer USS Southard. After Southard, the home passed to a few owners until lastly, Edmund Ross came to be its owner. Mr Ross farmed the land and breed thoroughbred horses for more than 50 years. The Ross family sold the estate to Somerset County in 2005.
Ross farm is a special place where yesterday meets today. That’s Bernards! #funforfamilies #makingmemories
I ❤️ Bernards...Reason #7...International Yoga Day in the Park! Mind and body connection ✅. Enjoying the beauty of nature ✅. Sharing it with community ✅. How awesome is that???
The word ‘yoga’ derived from Sanskrit, is an ancient practice originated in India, which means to join or unite the connection of body and consciousness.
Yoga’s poses help us stretch our muscles releasing tension. Yoga teaches us, that by controlling our breathing we can control our body and quiet our minds. Yoga helps us to release judgement and live in the moment.
Thank you to the Basking Ridge Indian Community for hosting this event for our community!
